Appearance:

Tengen is a very tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular man with light brown skin and white hair. His hair is uneven in length, with the longest strands reaching his shoulders, and it is styled with three shorter clumps of hair that curve upwards to fall as bangs between his eyes and on both sides of his face. He has maroon-red eyes that appear slanted inward, each with a long eyelash that flows towards the far side of his face. He is considered very handsome, as noted by many women and even Zenitsu; he often uses his appearance as a tool for his missions when persuasion is required.

While still serving in the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen wore a sleeveless, dark blue version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, along with a burgundy cloth wrapped around his calves with his tattsuke-bakama pants tucked into them, and white-tied Zōri sandals. He also wore two thick, gold-colored rings around his upper arms and a pair of fingerless blue gloves, which were tied around his middle finger with a white ribbon and around his wrist with a set of thinner gold rings, this time with two on each side. Additionally, Tengen wore a white cloth that covered his hair, leaving only a thin ponytail visible to fall behind his head from between its layers, adorned with a pale gray headband decorated with six pale pinkish-red gemstones, three large ones arranged in a line, and three smaller ones arranged in a triangle on the left side. A smaller chain of light blue gemstones hung from each side of this headband, framing his face, and he also wore what appeared to be red eye makeup around his left eye, consisting of alternating large and small dots running inwards towards his eye.

After retiring from the Demon Slayer Corps due to injuries sustained during his battle with Gyutaro, Tengen changed his appearance to accommodate the loss of his left eye and hand. He now wears a long light blue yukata and a black haori, and replaced his old head covering with a dark eye patch adorned with what appears to be leftover gemstones from his old headband, allowing his hair to fall loosely past his shoulders.

Personality:

Tengen is an eccentric and flamboyant individual who always seeks to be "flamboyant," having a need for everything to be ostentatious and stand out, even stating that he is the "god of flamboyance" and festivals. This is shown when he delights in imagining how "flamboyant" it would be if Tanjiro Kamado's blood vessels were to explode, and he forcefully brings Aoi Kanzaki to the Entertainment District against her will so she can assist him in a dangerous mission, even slapping her. Due to his flamboyant and attention-seeking personality, Tengen is very demanding of others, treating Demon Slayers very harshly during the Hashira Training Arc and ridiculing them for lacking substance when they couldn't keep up with his stamina training. Additionally, he openly expresses his disdain for things that aren't flamboyant, as shown when the Hashira openly states his dislike for simplicity.

Tengen often claims to be a "god" in front of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, even calling them trash and stating that if he tells them to become dogs, they must become dogs, and if he tells them to become monkeys, they must become monkeys. Tengen even demands that the trio always entertain and humble themselves before him, begging him for help, and constantly trying to praise him. This is also demonstrated in his initial meeting with the Upper Rank Six, Gyutaro, where he confidently states that he is in prime condition even when poisoned.

However, Tengen has a caring side that is hidden beneath his flamboyant mask, which he only shows to those very close to him, especially his three wives, Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru, who are deeply loved by Tengen. He praises and encourages Makio and Suma after their undercover mission and reassures Hinatsuru that she has completed her mission and instructs her to get out of harm's way. Furthermore, Tengen also states that they must value their lives above all else because they are precious to him. After the events in Yoshiwara, Tengen also becomes friendlier towards Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke.

Despite being a shinobi who traditionally values mission completion above all else, Tengen rejects that ideology after witnessing its impact on his family. He believes that his subordinates, whether they are his wives or Demon Slayers under his command, should value their lives and the lives of innocent people above missions or himself. Tengen deeply despises becoming like his cold and unfeeling father or brother, and he strives to leave behind what was taught to him by them.

Abilities:

As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen is a highly skilled and powerful fighter. He displays extraordinary physical prowess in terms of strength and speed, ranking as the second strongest physically among the current generation of Hashira and being the fastest runner among all Hashira. In terms of combat skills, he can match the fighting abilities of Daki and Gyutaro, both of whom are Upper Rank demons who have fought and killed many Hashira in the past. Tengen also has great skill and precision in using explosives, minimizing the damage to his surroundings while maximizing the damage to his opponents. Due to his shinobi training, Tengen has tactical skills and sharper senses, especially his hearing, which greatly aids him in battle. Even after losing his left hand to Gyutaro, Tengen can still fight an Upper Rank with balance by completing his Musical Score, allowing him to block Gyutaro's attacks, sever his arm, and pin him down at the cost of losing his left eye. However, due to the poison circulating in his body, he cannot attempt finishing blows and needs Tanjiro to do it for him.

Indomitable Will:

Tengen possesses an unwavering spirit and incredible willpower, never faltering even when facing adversity and dire circumstances. Despite being poisoned early on by Gyutaro, he boldly declares that he can still fight well, even attacking both Daki and Gyutaro simultaneously, deflecting several poisoned blood knives with his lost hand. Even when his eye was sliced off, he pushed through all the damage until he defeated Gyutaro with Tanjiro.

The chain allows him to control the distance between himself and his opponents, making him a formidable adversary.
