Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the currently popular manga and anime series. One intriguing aspect of this series is the existence of Cursed Spirits, spiritual entities invisible to ordinary humans and the main enemies of jujutsu sorcerers. Cursed Spirits emerge from cursed energy generated by human negative emotions such as fear, sadness, anger, and more. The stronger the negative emotion, the more potent the Cursed Spirit formed.

Cursed Spirits have different levels and classifications, depending on their strength and characteristics. Here's a brief explanation of the levels and classifications of Cursed Spirits in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

Levels of Cursed Spirits

The levels of Cursed Spirits indicate how strong and dangerous they are. The levels are categorized as follows:

Below Grade 4:

This is the weakest and most common category of Cursed Spirits. They usually take the form of insects or small animals that are not overly threatening. Examples include Yoto or Fly Heads, Cursed Spirits resembling flies that like to attach themselves to human bodies.

Grade 4 – Grade 1:

This category comprises Cursed Spirits with moderate to high strength. They can pose a threat to both ordinary humans and novice jujutsu sorcerers. An example is the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, Cursed Spirits resulting from Noritoshi Kamo's experiments in the Meiji era with the ability to use cursed techniques.

Semi-Grade 1:

This category is nearly equivalent to Grade 1 but has not fully reached that level. They can also use cursed techniques and possess considerable strength. An example is the Grasshopper Curse, a Cursed Spirit resembling a giant grasshopper that can leap quickly and shoot needles from its body.

Special Grade:

This is the strongest and most feared category of Cursed Spirits. They have extraordinary power and can threaten the entire world. They also have their own personalities and goals, not merely arising from human cursed energy. An example is Ryomen Sukuna, the Cursed King with 20 fingers who can control all types of curses.

Classifications of Cursed Spirits

In addition to levels, Cursed Spirits also have classifications indicating their origins and nature. The classifications are divided into several types:

Vengeful Spirits:

These are Cursed Spirits that arise from an intense desire for revenge. Typically, they are individuals who died tragically or unfairly, and their spirits become cursed, seeking vengeance against those responsible for their death. An example is Rika Orimoto, Yuta Okkotsu's childhood friend who died in a car accident and became a powerful Cursed Spirit protecting Yuta from danger.

Cursed Wombs:

These are Cursed Spirits that result from Noritoshi Kamo's experiments in the Meiji era. He used a woman as an experiment subject to create children who are half-human and half-Cursed Spirit. Only three children survived the experiment—Choso, Eso, and Kechizu. They have cursed technique abilities and a blood connection with their siblings.

Registered Cursed Spirits:

These are Cursed Spirits officially classified as Special Grade by the jujutsu organization. They are highly dangerous and must be watched closely by all jujutsu sorcerers. An example is Tamamo-no-Mae, a fox-shaped Cursed Spirit with nine tails that can change form and control other curses.

Unregistered Cursed Spirits:

These are Cursed Spirits that have not been officially registered as Special Grade but possess power equivalent to Special Grade. They emerge from the modern complex and varied cursed energy of humans, surpassing the curses of ancient times. An example is Mahito, a Cursed Spirit capable of transforming both shape and human souls.
