Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga and anime series that tells the story of the jujutsu sorcery world, where jujutsu sorcerers must battle evil creatures called curses born from the negative energy of humans. The series features many characters who undergo various misfortunes and tragedies, but one of the most prominent is Itadori Yuji, the main protagonist of the story.
Itadori Yuji is a high school student who initially led a normal and happy life until one day he became involved in an incident that changed his life forever. When the occult club he joined discovers a mummified finger, which turns out to be one of the 20 fingers of Sukuna Ryoumen, the immensely powerful and dangerous Curse King, they are attacked by curses seeking to claim the finger. To save his friends, Itadori decides to swallow Sukuna's finger, making him a curse bearer with extraordinary powers.
However, that decision also brings fatal consequences for Itadori. He is immediately sentenced to death by the jujutsu organization, considering him a threat that must be eliminated. Only through the intervention of Gojo Satoru, a highly powerful jujutsu teacher who admires Itadori's potential, does he receive a stay of execution. The condition is that he must find and consume all the remaining fingers of Sukuna and only then be executed, allowing Sukuna to vanish forever.
Itadori enters the jujutsu sorcery school, where he meets new friends such as Fushiguro Megumi, Kugisaki Nobara, and Zenin Maki. He also undergoes training and experiences battles against curses, both weak and powerful. However, his life's journey is not that simple. He has to face various challenges, dangers, and enemies who either want to kill him or take Sukuna's power from him.
One of the most memorable and frightening enemies is Mahito, a curse with the ability to freely manipulate the shape of a human's body. Mahito is born from humanity's self-hatred and takes great pleasure in torturing and killing humans in horrifying ways.
Mahito is the cause of one of the biggest tragedies in Itadori's life, the death of Junpei Yoshino, a high school student and Itadori's friend. Junpei was a lonely and bullied kid at his school until he met Mahito, who gave him curse powers and persuaded him to seek revenge against his schoolmates. Junpei didn't realize that Mahito was merely using him for evil purposes, and he became involved in a fight against Itadori, who tried to save him.
Junpei's end was extremely tragic, as he was killed by Mahito right in front of Itadori, with his body transformed into a cursed monster. Itadori was deeply shocked and enraged, engaging in a fierce battle against Mahito. However, he couldn't defeat Mahito and could only weep beside Junpei's lifeless body.
Junpei's death is one of the many losses experienced by Itadori. He also had to witness the deaths of other friends, such as Nanami Kento, a professional jujutsu sorcerer who served as his mentor, or Kugisaki Nobara, Itadori's classmate at Jujutsu High School. He also had to confront the reality that he couldn't save everyone he cared about and that he had to kill curses that exhibited personalities and emotions like humans.
Itadori Yuji is a character with the most tragic fate in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. He is a kind, courageous, and loyal young man who always strives to protect those he cares about. However, he also bears an incredibly heavy burden – being the most feared curse bearer in the world – and faces endless suffering and sorrow. Despite this, he continues to fight to live his life with spirit and hope, never giving up on his dreams and goals.
